A Cooling Happiness Hour Ritual

What if your happy hour could actually support your health?

After 9 years of sobriety, I have learned that celebration can take many forms. Some of my favorite moments now are simple, intentional rituals that help me feel more connected to my body, the season, and the people around me.

One of those rituals is creating refreshing alcohol-free drinks inspired by Ayurveda.

I’m a Pitta, so I already have a little fire in me… and when summer heat turns up, so does my sass.

Add perimenopause hot flashes to the mix, and sometimes it feels like my internal thermostat forgot how to chill.

That is exactly why I reach for cooling and hydrating foods and beverages during the hottest months of the year. Ayurveda teaches us to work with nature instead of against it, adjusting what we eat and drink as the seasons change.

This Strawberry Mocktail Mojito has become one of my favorite summer rituals. It is refreshing, beautiful, nourishing, and a reminder that happiness does not have to come from alcohol. Sometimes it begins with something as simple as slowing down long enough to make yourself a beautiful drink.

Why These Ingredients?

Strawberries

Fresh strawberries are naturally sweet, rich in vitamin C, and full of antioxidants. They make this mocktail taste like summer.

Mint

Mint has long been appreciated in Ayurveda for its refreshing qualities and is one of my favorite herbs during hot weather.

Lime

Lime adds brightness and complements the sweetness of the strawberries while making the drink extra refreshing.

Coconut Water

Coconut water naturally provides electrolytes and hydration, making it a perfect summer beverage.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are a source of fiber and plant-based omega-3 fatty acids. They also create a fun texture that makes this mocktail unique.

An Ayurvedic Perspective

According to Ayurveda, summer is associated with the Pitta dosha, which carries the qualities of heat, intensity, and sharpness.

If you tend to feel overheated, irritable, impatient, or simply crave cooling foods during the summer, this drink can become part of a seasonal self-care ritual.

While no single food or drink can “balance” a dosha on its own, choosing cooling and hydrating ingredients is one practical way many people incorporate Ayurvedic principles into everyday life.
